Bagan, Myanmar, the land of 1000 temples and Pagodas, an amazing sight.

Bagan is sometimes also referred to as Pagan. Bagan lies on the banks of the Irrawaddy River and is home to large numbers of Buddhist temples, stupas, pagodas and medieval ruins dating as far back as the 11th and 12th centuries.

An estimated 13,000 temples and stupas once stood in this 42sq/km area in the centre of Myanmar.

You are required to purchase a ticket valid for the entire archaeological site during your stay which a driver will direct you to before dropping you at a hotel.

You can enter Bagan by air from Yangon or Mandalay and the journey time from the airport is only 20 minutes by car which may be provided free of charge by mid-range and luxury hotels.

Overnight trains run every day from Yangon and also Mandalay. The Mandalay – Bagan route in the day time may be highly crowded and so storage of baggage and comfort levels are compromised.

The journey at night however is a much more comfortable affair, especially in the first class carriage which has plenty of leg and elbow room. Bus links exist to Mandalay and Yangon as well as one bus a day from Inle Lake to Bagan.

In Bagan you can choose from 5 star to budget accommodation to stay at this amazing pagoda garden. Click on the right to see the hotels available.
